Thursday, January 31, 2013 - Family Night

Bounce Houses, Face painting, and Dynamite the clown await the little ones as part of family night activities.  Doors open at 5:30. 

Join WTCM Country/ Silent Observer for the Great American Chili Cook-Off Everything starts at 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm   the official “kickoff” event to the NASF every year, the Chili Cook-off pits area restaurants against each other in the quest for the perfect bowl. Using a secret system, the entries are all identified by letter. Our Silent Observer volunteers serve it up to the judges. WTCM will be onsite with a Live Remote.  The winner is the entry who receives the most votes. Anyone with a NASF button is encouraged to participate, but get there early, because the chili doesn’t last long! The winner receives the traveling trophy and bragging rights for a year. Contact for participating restaurants is Amanda @ 231-775-9776 or Mike Paulin @ 231-775-5882.  This year entries so far include CJ's Pub and Grub of Lake City, The Willows @ The Little River Casino, Chico's Taco House of Cadillac, The Port Hole Pub and Eatery inside the Cadillac Sands Resort, Maggies Tavern of Cadillac, and the CTC 13th Street Cafe. Come out and vote for your favorite chili.

Miss Cadillac NASF, 7:30pm —Reigning 2012 Queen of the Miss Cadillac NASF Sarah Dick is proud to be the face for this year’s Miss NASF Pageant and to pass on the right to a new 2013 Queen.  Right now the NASF is working hard to organize a successful and fun pageant.  The Miss Cadillac NASF Pageant winner will participate in various community events throughout the year and will also be playing a crucial role in working with the next year’s (2014) pageant contestants.  The pageant starts at 7:30pm on Thursday January 31, 2013 at the Wexford Civic Arena.

Miss NASF Contestants - Contestants will be judged on (4) categories; casual wear, winter wear, evening wear and a question by one of our judges. The winner will walk away with a $500  Cash grand prize,  crown, and sash. along with 12 College credit hours being donated by Baker College of Cadillac, A professional portrait sitting  in her crown and sash donated by  John Nelson Photography and an 11X14 portrait (a 125.00 Value), and  $50.00 gift certificate to Your Sisters Closet in beautiful Downtown Cadillac, The first runner up will receive a $100  cash prize,  a tiara, and sash. along with 8 College credit hours being donated by Baker College of Cadillac.  She will also a $25.00 gift certificate to Your Sister Closet in beautiful Downtown Cadillac.  All the contestants will receive a gift just for participating. NEW - Build a Snow Sculpture  - at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center located in Mitchell State Park.  Construction may start any time after 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 1st and continue until sculptures are judged at 3:00 p.m.  Saturday, February 2nd.  Prizes will be given in the following categories:  best animal, best snowman or snowwoman, most comical, tallest, and most imaginative.

Registration sheets may be picked up at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center located on M-115 by the canal after January 1st.  Center hours are Friday and Sunday,noon to 5:00 and Saturday 10:00- 5:00.   A recreation passport is required for entry to the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center.

New - Speed Fishing Tournament - sponsored by Pizza Plus. Starts at 4 p.m.  No electronics, line and bait only. One hour fishing.  Change holes every 10 minutes.  Largest Fish by length takes all.  Awards ceremony prior to Fun Run finals at the fishing site on Lake Mitchell.  Cost:  must have a NASF button, plus $25 per person entry - 100% payout..

Fun Run – Coordinated by the Cadillac Winter Warriors.  Feeling lucky? Ready to ride? Join in the fun run! You need just $5 to participate and you don’t have to own a snowmobile. Sponsors of this event are our very own Cadillac Winter Warriors. Start at one of the designated registration points before 2:00 pm, buy a card (or several) and you’re ready to roll. Hit any of the other 20 stops, by car or by sled, collecting cards along the way. You can make as many stops as you want. When you check in at the Wex  at 5:30 pm, exchange the cards to get a maximum of eight playing cards and make your best possible poker hand. Lots of prizes will be handed out. Participants will be awarded for best 5-card poker hand. Must be present to win. You must register at one of the OFFICAL points to receive your card.

Breakfast at the Wex 8-10 Am

Lake Races - Sponsored by J & D Marine.  The lake races are one of the favorite events at the NASF, because they are exciting for both racers and spectators. FOUR 1200 foot long lanes are partitioned off in the middle of Lake Cadillac and racers will go head to head from 10:00 am-4:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Registration begins at 10:00 am. Participants must be 16 or older with a driver’s license and a full size sled. They must also buy a $5 NASF button and pay a $15 fee for each day of racing. Participants must sign a waiver and ride at their own risk. This event is dependent on the ice conditions.

Kids Snow Cros Style Races— Sponsored by the Cadillac Winter Warriors.  Younger riders aren’t left out at the NASF! They have their own oval course to ride on Lake Cadillac. The smallest sledders go head to head in the Kiddie Cat division, the next group up is the 120’s. If some competitors have modified sleds, they will ride in their own race. Registration runs from 10:30-11:45, the races kick off at Noon. For event information please contact Dan Wiese at 231-779-1210. Every participant will take home a prize! Ages 4 -12.

2nd Annual Downtown Raffle Mania - Participating Downtown Cadillac stores will post NASF Rafflemania Prize Winners Saturday, look for the postings, find your raffle number and win a prize from that store - must be present to win. Go to www.downtowncadillac.com for a listing of participating stores after January 15.

9th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament— Sponsored by Pilgrims Village & Fox Motors.  Anglers of all ages are invited to participate in the Ice fishing tournament !!!  Prizes will be awarded for the largest Northern Pike, Walleye, Bluegill (Sunfish), Crappie, Perch and Rock Bass. Weigh in starts 2:00pm and promtly ends at 3:30pm. Fish will be measured by length, but ties will be determined by weight. If the weight is a tie, then a coin toss will determine the winner. Every participant must have an NASF button, and register at one of the three sponsors: MC Sports, Pilgrim Village Fishing Shop or Schafer’s Bait and Sporting Goods.

Registration will open January 1, until close at 10:00am on Saturday, February 2. Fishing starts at 8:00am on Saturday. Fish must be caught from Lake Cadillac or Mitchell before 3:00 pm. After the winners are recognized, many other prizes will be  given registered participants present at the Cadillac Junior High Cafeteria starting at 3:30pm. This event is dependent on ice conditions. Antique Snowmobile Show — From the ugliest sled to the most miles traveled, the “oldies but goodies” will be awarded during the Antique and Vintage Snowmobile show. The antique sleds date back to 1968 and before. The vintage category includes snowmobiles from 1969-1974. Judges will vote for all categories like antique original, antique restored, classic 1975 - 1980, custom, vintage original, vintage restored, vintage mini-sled, best sled/sleigh Combo and farthest travled. Spectators will be able to cast a ballot for their choice as best in show. Signup for this event begins at 9:00 am  at The Cadillac Armory. Participants only need a $5 NASF button to participate. Trophies will be awarded for all categories at 3:00 pm after the lake ride. Collectors can also ride in the lake races for free, and bring any of their spare parts for a swap meet. Oasis Polar Dip Registration begins at 1:45 pm; the actual jumps begin at 2:00pm.  Not for the faint of heart, but brave souls can bear it all for a great cause!  A tradition embraced by Oasis Northern Michiganders, the Polar dip involves cutting a hole in the ice, and sending swimmers into the freezing cold waters. The Cadillac Area OASIS/Family Resource center organizes this benefit every year. Some participants choose to get sponsors to help raise money; others who want to get involved must buy a $20 shirt get warm after their dip and must be wearing a NASF pin (NASF $5 pins will be available for sale at the Oasis Polar Dip). But in the end, everything goes back to OASIS/Family Resource Center, a private, non-profit community based agency serving Wexford and Missaukee counties. So take the plunge for a good cause on the north side of Lake Cadillac.  Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, and all participants and spectators must have a NASF button (included in the entry fee). Texas Holdem' Tournament # M-79095 will take place at the Wex at 5pm.  Vegas Night will also take place at the Wex where you can play Blackjack, Dirty Queen, and other games.  Vegas Night will run from 5pm to Midnight.

Hot Dog Eating Contest. The Da Dawg House restaurant proudly presents the annual  hot dog eating contest. The contest takes place at the Wex. There is no entry fee, but you must have an offical 2012 NASF button to participate. Area restaurants donated gift certificates that the winner will enjoy, to dine around the Cadillac area. Parade of LightsJoin the Cadillac Winter Warriors to light up the night! Anyone with a snowmobile is invited to meet on the East Side of Lake Cadillac at 5:30 pm by the City Docks. The more people who get involved, the more impressive the parade, so grab your sled and go!   Bill Bradfield will lead the parade this year.  He is looking for at least 30+ snowmobilers to assist with the parade.  (e-mail him above)

The Wex will be your opportunity to sit center stage and watch Eric Freedom and his wrestlers from Universyl Wrestling as they rumble at Body Slams on Ice...  fun entertainment for the whole family.   Your $5 NASF button/raffle ticket is your entry into all events throughout the weekend!!

NEW - NASF Button Raffle Drawing for CASH Prizes

At 10:00pm Saturday night, there will be four winners. One will become the Grand Prize winner of $3000 in cash! Another will win $1000 First Prize, and two will win $500 Second Prizes. The ticket stub attached to your $5 NASF button enters you in the drawing.  If NASF does not sell the minimum 3000 buttons then each cash prize will be reduced by the one half (50%). Congratulations goes to Daniel Garcia who was the big winner of $1,500.00, Mark Hudson won $500.00, Jim Foster won $250.00, and Shelly Jones also won $250.00.
