Cross Country Skiing

Greater Cadillac Trails...

Cadillac is a great place to cross country ski.  Cross country skiers can find a variety of trail systems, many of which are groomed, to ensure the best skiing conditions.

Ski rentals can be arranged at  Coyote Crossings (231-862-3212) and at McGuire’s Resort (231-775-9947). Below is a list of the cross country ski trails in the Cadillac area.

Cadillac Pathway  (see trail report below)  pathwaymaprules.pdf

231-775-9727 The 11 mile Pathway is a favorite among cross country skiers.  This path begins off Boon Road near the Clam River, close to the Missaukee County line.  A Nordic Skiing Trail Rating System is used to differentiate between easiest, more difficult and most difficult trails.  There is up to 11 miles of rolling trails depending upon the route you take.  This trail can be skied by all levels of skiers, novice to expert.

2/28/13 - We reset the track on the Pathway this afternoon. We would rate skiing conditions at 8 out of 10. The new snow had a lot of moisture in it and that slightly affected the grooming.

It's a good idea to carry wax at this time of year. For example: last weekend the snow on the Pathway was pretty sticky. For those who may not know, they do make a wax designed specifically to work on waxless skis. So, get out and enjoy excellent skiing conditions. The Groomers (Jerry and Roger)

2/22/13  - We groomed the Pathway this morning. Skiing conditions are excellent.  For those of you who have skied the Pathway in the past, this is a reminder that it's time for those menacing leaves to fall. We would rate conditions at 9 out of 10, except where there are quite a few leaves. Get out and enjoy the snow as we are nearing the end of this season. Our thanks again to Dave Mackey and his crew at the Career Tech Center for having things ready to go. Heritage Nature Trail

231-779-1321 Begin this trail either behind the Carl T Johnson Hunting and fishing Center on M-115 or at the west end of the Kenwood Park on North Boulevard.  The trail is groomed and skiers shouldn’t be surprised if deer, wild turkeys or other animals are seen along the route.  Skiers are asked to stay on the designated trails to help preserve the delicate habitat of the area.  The trail covers 2-3 miles.

Mackenzie Trail

231-862-3000 The Mackenzie trail is an outstanding Nordic Trail set in a beautiful hardwood forest west of Cadillac.  The trail system totals 9 miles with loop combinations of various lengths available for all levels of cross country enthusiasts.  All trails are marked with blue diamonds. While use of this trail is free, donations are encouraged to help defray the cost of trail grooming by Cadillac Winter Promotions.  To reach the trail, take M-55 west to Caberfae Rd then north 2 miles.  Entrances are located on 38 Rd, 1 mile west of Caberfae Peaks Ski & Golf resort.
