Hiking - trails and info
Surrounded by the National Forest and combined with the MDNR we offer over 500,000 acres of public land, along with over 200 miles of trails - hiking and biking, that convert in the winter to snowmobile, cross country, snow shoe, etc.
Individual Hiking Trail maps are linked within the trail system pages below. Many link to MDNR or National Forest Pages. For the National Forest Interactive Visitor Map, click here.
Clubs: The North Country Trail in the Huron-Manistee National Forest is managed by the Spirit of the Woods Chapter. The Traverse City Chapter manages the area north of the Manistee River Loop area. These clubs span across Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Wexford and Manistee Counties. (Cadillac is in SE corner of Wexford County)
Events: For season hiking events, check in at the Carl T Johnson Hunting & Fishing Center, they host several events throughout the year on area trails.
From our Blog: Check out what locals and visitors have to say about our area hiking trails, what to pack, where to go... AND our local Dave Foley has his own 'Out and About' section on our site, great tips from 40+ years of experience.
